Ah, we're up to the Kinetic Shotgun arc. If I remember my basic Rocket Science Breaking up the Impact Slug should convert the Leading bits of Kinetic Mass into a Huge Plasma Wave while the Trailing bits in the wake, should leave a mess of overlapping craters.

Though not well illustrated here, the leading edge of the pattern will spread and decelerate, and be bulked up by the rest catching up making a big unified shock front. Ideally, for a better effect pattern in a near vertical strike would be a radial pattern of dispersal instead of spherical.

Nasty version of the "crowbar" Bill the bunny has an evil mind. This bit I must have missed. Distribution of Albedo was spotty at best, at least around here. So, this is an interesting development, and the ILR are a aggressive bunch, ain't they. THE COLONEL

The really nasty bit is that this item is virtually unstoppable. Any attempt to intercept it would just spreas it out, or only take out a small part of it trying to stop itm might actually make the damage worse, or at least spread it ou over a much larger area, About the only way would be to deflect the KRW befor it hit the atmosphere, and then where do you deflect it to?

Sort of a KEW scale up of the M.O.A.B [aka the Mother of all Bombs] or the Russian thermo-baric "Father of all Bombs". Well, it is a "cleaner" device than your classic Nuke, but nasty anyhow. WCJ

BTW, I loved the colonel's expression in reaction to his "boffins" enthusiasms. "Oh, what have these idiots come up with now???? And do the really think it will work? Bill the bunny seems to be something of a Rabbit "Barnes Wallace" Pitty he is working for the "Bad Guys" in this scenario. WCJ

Curiously enough, I was thinking about the same thing comparing this with the MOAB launched in Afghanistan, even if the MOAB is sorta different in concept, but similar in idea.

This gives a whole new meaning to "rabbit pellets"

The Tunguska event was part of the inspiration, though at a smaller scale.

BTW, did that weapon was inspired as well in the "Rods of God" kinetic weapon from the SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative) from the 80s?

No. I was thinking more in terms of small scale asteroid impacts. The single slug type would have nuclear equivelent blast and cratering effect, the effect shot version would have an even larger shock/blast coverage. The SDI kinetic weapons were much smaller and much slower. Other than the nuke-pumped X-ray laser, most of the SDI stuff was old news, SF had such since the '50s at least.

When it comes down to it, war falls to the people who are better at throwing rocks, than every one else.
